Is God Punishing Sharon?

According to televangelist Pat Robertson he is. According to a CBS news report Robertson claims that Ariel Sharon is being punished by God for dividing Israel. While I'm in no position to divine the intentions of the Almighty, I do find it rather curious that the only viable candidate for the conservative party to fill the power vacuum left by Sharon's tragic illness is Benjamin Netanyahu.

The former Prime Minister was known for his hard handed dealings with the Islamofascists at his border and would never have made the concessions that Sharon made. Israel has indeed been divided, but in the end are they any safer? Has placating the enemy made a difference in the peace and "stability of the region" as the media proudly proclaimed it would? Make no mistake Israel, like the United States, has her doves. Doves that would seek to sell out their brothers and sisters for the sake of some utopian pipe-dream of peace in a region where there can be no peace. All one has to do is look back at the heart wrenching images of last year when the IDF was forced to pry their fellow countrymen from their homes, turning their lives inside-out.

I believe that like Esther of the Old Testament, Netanyahu and those like him were "born for such a time as this." While my prayers will be with Israel and her prime minister, I believe that this tragic event presents an historic opportunity for the nation of Israel to return to a foreign policy that projects a position of strength.

Is God punishing Sharon? Dunno, I cant say yes and I cant say no. If one holds that YHWA established Isreal as a nation then giving away land for peace would not have been the right course of action. I think YHWA would have wanted to be consulted about that, if the Isrealie leadership sought the face of their God maybe another outcome would have materlized?

I think Sharon was a very fat 77 year old man. If he had a stroke, what's the mystery? Does Robertson think he himself will live forever? Probably. Will he? Not in this world. Such is life. We carry on.

When he does die, I wonder if pundits will declare that God was angry with him for something, and therefore struck him down? Think of how close we came to having him as our Presidential candidate in 2000. Had it not been for some re-working in the Bush campaign after New Hapshire the nomination was anybody's for the taking.
